1. What is Carercard and how much does it cost?

The Hestian Group Ltd has been established to support the wellbeing of the cared for, providing products and services to enable them to live easier, independent, and financially secure lives in their own homes for longer. We have developed Carercard™, as a simpler, safer way to manage housekeeping spend. We have partnered with a London based specialist for prepaid cards and payments technology – Prepaid Financial Services Limited (PFS) – who are responsible for card issuing, transactions and funds management.

What is Carercard?

Carercard is a programme designed to remove the risk of cash in care; a set of prepaid cards that can used for all day-to-day housekeeping expenditure.

The PFS Prepaid Mastercard is issued by Prepaid Financial Services Limited pursuant to a license from Mastercard International Incorporated. Prepaid Financial Services Limited is regulated and authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, as an Electronic Money Institution. As a regulated E-money issuer, authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK and a principal Mastercard member, PFS must comply with all applicable laws and regulations, in addition to compliance with the Mastercard Prepaid Policy.

This includes assurance that Hestian has designed a compliant and evidence-based system for identity management, for personal data management, and for issues and complaint.

Carercard is a Mastercard® prepaid card, for use wherever you see the ‘Mastercard Acceptance Mark’. This really means anywhere you would normally use a credit or debit card. A few ‘non-desirable’ retail merchant outlets have been blocked, for instance internet gambling services. A full list of the Carercard retail merchant ‘blocks’ is provided in the Hestian Carercard Terms of Service, that can be found here

The Payment Services are prepaid payment services and Carercard is not a credit or bank product. You must therefore ensure that you have a sufficient available balance to pay for your transactions and applicable fees.

Carercard costs and fees

Hestian has designed Carercard from our extensive and first-hand experience of organising care, for our own loved ones.

Currently, there is no subscription charge for the first three months after card creation. Try Carercard for three months and see the benefits for yourself. Then you can continue using and pay a monthly subscription or stop. It’s as easy as that.
After three months, a subscription of £7 per month is charged from the card balance. This covers card transactions and general card usage, with a few exceptions.

We recommend that for loading cash and topping up Carercard, a direct bank transfer is made (at no cost).
As with all cards, Carercard has loading and spending limits, including a maximum balance. You can find full information about these limits in the Terms of Service on our website.
They include, for instance, a maximum housekeeping spend per day of £2,500. We will notify you in advance if you are close to your spending limits. The ATM cash withdrawal limit is £200 per day and £800 per month (and only one withdrawal per day).
